“When children come to the age of puberty, it is necessary to awaken within them an extraordinarily great interest in the world outside of themselves. Through the whole way in which they are educated, they must be led to look out into the world around them and into all its laws, its course, causes and effects, into men's intentions and goals — not only into human beings, but into everything, even into a piece of music, for instance. All this must be brought to them in such a way that it can resound on and on within them — so that questions about nature, about the cosmos and the entire world, about the human soul, questions of history — so that riddles arise in their youthful souls.” Rudolf Steiner
Plans began in 2004 to take the then class 5 to year 10 in 2009. Over the past few years our curriculum has developed from the existing resources of the other Steiner High Schools in NSW and Australia and a network of qualified and experienced teachers began working together to prepare for the students, building on the work being done in the primary years. This class is currently in their final year as planned. The school also recently received accreditation for our current class 10 class to sit the NSW School Certificate.
“…for although the students are developing the capacity to make judgments, judgment is actually borne out of the powers of imagination” Rudolf Steiner.
So, not even in early high school is this power to make independent judgement completely formed. Still the teacher works on developing this faculty until the end of the high school years through a curriculum embracing a broad spectrum of the human experience specifically focused on the unfolding and developing qualities of the adolescent. Then the student becomes capable of imparting purpose, of themselves, to their life.
